ClubRun: The football club management game

ClubRun is a football management game played in short bursts rather than long sittings. You take a club into a nineteen-match season, pick the tactic you think beats the side in front of you, sign players when the transfer window opens, and live with the table that comes out the other end. A season is played three matches at a time, so a full campaign fits into a couple of weeks of casual play rather than a weekend lost to it.

The squad is made of real footballers, rated from the EA SPORTS FC database, and the division you choose decides who you can sign. Start in a second tier and the market offers you second-tier players; earn promotion and the whole board changes. Your club carries over between seasons, which means the decisions that matter are the ones whose consequences you have to keep managing.

How to play ClubRun

  1. Name your club, pick a division and choose the tactic you want to start the season with.
  2. Play your league fixtures three per day, adjusting your approach before each one.
  3. When the transfer window opens, spend your budget on the players the market offers you.
  4. Finish the season, see where you placed, then take the same club into the next one.

Tactics and the table

The three approaches beat each other in a loop rather than stacking in a line: patient build-up, fast transitions and wide overloads each have one they are strong against and one they struggle with. The opponent preview tells you what the other side plays, so every match is a small guess about what they are about to do rather than a fixed difficulty setting.

The board is watching the table, not the highlights. Meeting the objective it sets buys you patience; missing it repeatedly ends the run. That is what stops the season from being a series of disconnected matches and makes a bad run of three actually matter.

Arena

Arena takes the eleven you have built in your career and puts it against other players' clubs. Results are worked out on the server from both squads, so it is a comparison of the teams you have each assembled rather than a test of who is online at the time. Every club starts a fresh month on the same rating, and the monthly leaderboard resets with it.

Tips to score higher

Read the opponent before you pick: The preview names the style you are about to face. Changing your own approach to the one that counters it is free, and across nineteen matches it is worth more than any single signing.

Spend the window, do not save it: Budget does not roll up indefinitely, and the market only offers players from your own division. An unspent window is a window you cannot get back.

Young players are the only ones who grow: Development comes from minutes on the pitch, and it comes fastest to players under twenty-four. A slightly worse twenty-year-old who plays every week will pass a better twenty-nine-year-old who does the same.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a season take?

Nineteen league matches, played up to three per day, so about a week of casual play. Cup matches sit on top of that, and your club carries into the next season when it ends.

Are the players real?

Yes. Squads are drawn from the EA SPORTS FC ratings database across the top two divisions of England, Spain and Italy, so the ratings you sign are the published ones rather than invented numbers.

Can I be promoted or relegated?

Yes. Finishing high enough lets you take your club up a division for the following season, and the stronger league brings a stronger transfer market with it. Finishing in the bottom places sends you the other way.

Is ClubRun a daily game like the rest of MatchIQ?

Not quite. There is no single shared daily challenge, because a career is your own. What it shares with the daily games is the limit: you get three matches a day, so a season unfolds over time instead of in one sitting.
